Round 3 18/1/09
Austackle Gold Coast Event

29 teams braved some of Australia’s toughest economic times, and laid their money on the table in attempt to tame yellowfin bream in a brand new arena to the Gamakatsu Team Series, at Bribie Island north of Brisbane.

Anglers were greeted with light breezes, sunny skies and over 400km of shoreline.
16 limits of 5 fish were presented to the weigh master, with Team Anders Moore Accountings, Greg Byrne and Roderick Walmsley taking top honors. Byrne and Walmsley fished water less than 4 ft deep from Scarborough south to the Green Zone at Woody Point. Casting small Lucky Craft Pointers on light line, Team Anders Moore Accounting proceeded to fill the weigh bag, finally topping out at 5 fish for 4.25kg. The good back of yellowfin bream was anchored by a 1.145kg “kicker fish”, but that fish wasn’t quite enough to take the Flow-Rite Big Bream of the tournament.

Second place was awarded to the ever popular and ever consistent Team Pflueger/TT, Darren Borg and Stephen Wilson. Wilson and Borg fished similar areas as the top dogs, with a cracking bag of 3.060kg, impressive by any means.

Rounding out the top 5 was, father and son Team Squidgie’s Craig and David Simmons, Team Sassie Dynabolters, Peter Herbst and Arthur “Hatz” and TT/Switchblade, Jay Perham and Grayson Fong.

Team Meridian Marinas/Nitro Boats, Flow-Rite Big Bream is the biggest Bream to cross the Gamakatsu scales since the tournaments inception. Pulling the scales down to a “MASSIVE” 1.655kg, the bream was a team effort in locking the drag and driving the boat away from nasty structure to ensure they landed the fish. Engulfing a Megabass Dog-X topwater bait, this yellowfin will be sure to the target of the upcoming ABT Bream Pro event from Bribie Island.

With the generosity of our Naming and associate sponsors, all the competitors were able to walk away with close to, if not exceeding the entry fee paid.

Thanks to Austackle, Flow-Rite, Gamakatsu, Bassday, Megastrike, Megabass, Atomic and all the volunteers and competitors. Be sure to catch the next round at the Tweed River on March 15.
