Gamakatsu Teams Series
Round 5 15/3/09
Austackle Tweed Heads

Pictures
36 teams went out to try and win over some $9000 worth of cash and prizes. Conditions were great with little breeze and sunny skies. Up for grabs at the final round was the conventered Team of The Year, with 2 teams in contention, these being Anders Moore Accounting and Pflueger / TT it was going to be a close finish. The fishing was typical of the tweed river, lots of small fish and anglers having trouble finding some of the larger fish in the system. With 98 fish being weighed in totaling 36.02kg it proved tough, this averaged out to 2.72 fish per team and only 367g for each fish.
There were a couple of teams that defied the odds, team Green Machine managed to find their 5 coming 4th weighing the big bream for the event at 950gms, taking a Flow-Rite livewell system home for their trouble, third place was team Meridian Marinas / Nitro Boats.com after coming first last year they gave it a good go again to get 5 fish for 2.24kgs
Second place was team www.sportshq.com.au with AFC competitor Ben Godfrey and Brett Gay fishing deep plastics to achieve their bag of 2.44kg and taking home $500 plus Austackle Camo rods and braid.
Coming in at the top to secure first place and the Team of the Year trophy was Pflueger / TT made up of Stephen Wilson and AFC competitor Darren Borg. Going straight to the South wall and fishing a 100m stretch all day they found that scattered fish were moving in and out. Darren used Berkley 2” Shrimp with TT Tournament series jig heads and Stephen used Gulp 4” Minnow with Nitro Jig Heads. Stephen saying that if it was a 2 day tournament they would not have stayed there all day, they decided to put all their eggs in one basket and stick it out catching very few fish, but enough to get them the winning ticket.
With the generosity of our series sponsor Gamakatsu and naming sponsors Austackle, all the competitors were able to walk away with over their entry fee paid, while enjoying a free BBQ and drinks everyone hung around to discuss the one that got away.
Thanks to Gamakatsu, Austackle, Flow-Rite , Bassday, Megastrike, Megabass, Atomic and all the volunteers and competitors.
